APOLOGIES FOR THE POOR SOUND QUALITY (Abbreviated transcript below). SVN International Corp. Chief Operating Officer, Diane Danielson, discusses Blockchain Technology and commercial real estate at SVN's 2017 Annual Conference in Tampa, FL. See complete video of talk at: https://youtu.be/ZGbSkqs_0YQ The block chain is a public ledger of things/assets. It exists because people wanted a public ledger of assets (many of which are now digital) to be secure. This security level is created through decentralization. In essence, the block chain creates trust through transparency. 1. Data of a transaction is recorded and encrypted on a “block” 2. The block of data is validated by nodes (outside computer servers) and is added to a block chain as a permanent database. 3. Each node gets a copy of the transaction. When you purchase an item with cash, you have trust in the system as you are right there for the exchange of money for an object. You then know that you possess that particular object. Now if you purchase a digital asset online like an istock photo, how can either party be confident that they have the only copy of the asset, or that the money exchange will be valid. This is why a public ledger is a solution. Note that the technology is “public”, there can be private block chains, although that mitigates some of the strengths of a public, decentralized system. Bitcoin is not the Block Chain. Bitcoins are the first “app” for the block chain. Similar to how email was the first application of the Internet. • Bitcoins are earned as rewards to those offering their computer services (nodes) to validate transactions (called mining). • Bitcoins can be exchanged for other currencies, products and services. • Why do people like it? • Trust/transparency • Not controlled by any nation state. • Lower fees for merchants Other Block Chain applications: • Supply chain management. Companies are using an app called “Provenance” to track seafood from its capture to your table at a restaurant. Provenance uses the block chain to document assets much in the same way a valuable piece of artwork must be accompanied by authentication of it’s originality and legal transfer over the years. • Copyrights. While likely not legally enforceable, block chain technology is being used to document original online art and other works. • Commercial real estate: o Title registration o Security deposits o Self-executing contracts.

DA INTERWEBZ — Volatile cryptocurrency markets have experienced massive gains in recent months, followed by huge dips and then subsequent signs of recovery. You may have heard of cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ether or of the blockchain technology that underpins them. But what exactly is a blockchain? A blockchain is a digital database managed by a decentralized network of computers. The blockchain records transactions chronologically and publically, according to online blockchain resource, Blockgeeks.com. Distributing data through a peer-to-peer network hosted by millions of computers makes it far less vulnerable to hackers than a centralized network and protects files from getting lost. When a user requests a transaction on the blockchain, it is broadcast to the peer-to-peer network of computers, known as nodes. The nodes validate the transaction then combine it with other transactions to create a new block of data for the digital database. That block, which is both permanent and unalterable, is then added to the existing blockchain and the transaction is completed. Probably the most well known type of blockchain transaction involves cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, which has a value token called Ether. More than 900 cryptocurrencies are currently traded on the internet and the market is notoriously volatile. Blockchain technology can also be used record transactions for digital information such as contracts, or records like land rights and medical files. It may also have a huge impact on the Internet of Things. According to CNBC, recent drops in the cryptocurrency markets have been driven by profit-taking after Ethereum's exponential surge, uncertainty about a potential split in Bitcoin on Aug. 1 and startups selling large amounts of Ethereum after raising millions in U.S. dollars of the digital currency. ------------------------------------------------------------- Go to https://www.patreon.com/tomonews and become a Patron now TomoNews is now on Patreon and we've got some cool perks for our hardcore fans.
